Please play my music

Watching an old documentary called Mixtape Inc. It gave a very in-depth look at the beginnings of the mixtape phenomenon and where it is to date. Its funny the things that happen in the video artists wanting to be heard is the same thing that is still going on today. I remember a time when the local DFW radio stations would never play a local artist. Even though the streets have always dictated what's hot. The stations never listen to the people; they listen to executives who think they have the pulse of the street at their fingertips. Artist's who worry about radio play and getting there video played on MTV are fools. Too many outlets to get your music heard, sold and your videos played. Heck radio stations are struggling so badly now they finally realized yeah the people may like an artist but they do not want to hear them 4 times an hour. We still want some variety; we still want to hear that song we heard in the club last Friday night. Make no mistake stations are still and always looking to pimp the next person. They may offer to spin your music in a local spotlight block on a Sunday night. This happens to be one of the slowest times in radio in terms of listeners who will actually hear you. Oh can't forget the popular new artist song battle, your song against the guy from last week who had his new song aired. What a joke if the people like both songs play both them. All of the above are just ways they pimp you to get your friends and family to call the station, hit there website, so they can make money off of advertising dollars. I'll be glad when artists wise up and say "F" them, spin there own music on their own sites, and sell there own product and stop with the homeless give me a handout mentality.
